A couple of weeks ago, my worst nightmare came true. If you are as attached to your iPad as I am to mine, this is probably your worst nightmare also. Maybe you’ve already experienced this pain....the glass screen cracked.
It didn’t seem like I was doing anything careless when it happened. I was reading some news, and drinking coffee. I bumped the mug against the screen, then stared in shock as the edge of the screen cracked, cracks rippling from a spider web center outward.
I went through all the stages of grief, denial, anger and sadness. Still, the cracks aren’t too bad. I taped the edges and I’ve been using it until I decide what to do. I don’t think screen repair is covered. A new iPad is not in my budget right now. If Apple fixes it, it may set me back close to $300, also not in my budget.
Screen repair kits are about $120, which is a little more affordable, but I’m not that confident in my mechanical skills to work on the gadget I love the most. A survey of Craig’s List reveals some techies will repair screens for about $50. That sounds like it may be the best option, but putting my beloved iPad into the hands of a stranger for days is horrifying.
Readers, please let me know. Have you ever cracked your iPad’s screen? If so, what did you do about it, and were you happy with your decision. Please share your experiences and any suggestions for others who have cracked their screens.
